My 28 days at Twin Rivers taught me so much. I was fortunate to be supported by an incredible team of counsellors — Austin, AG, Michelle and Benton who each played an important part in helping me through those days. Thank you for your patience, guidance, support and for helping me get through some very difficult moments.

I am deeply grateful for the gift of being at Twin Rivers and for the opportunity to focus on getting well. I leave with lessons, tools and experiences that I will carry with me as I continue my recovery.

Thank you to everyone at Twin Rivers who played a part in my journey. I will always remember my time there with gratitude.

Finding the right facility is absolutely crucial to their recovery process. Twin Rivers team, from start to finish, has been exceptional. We were kept informed - as much as is legally and ethically acceptable, our son was well taken care of and has returned to us, focused on his future, looking healthy and determined to get back on a new track. I write this review to anyone considering Twin Rivers for addiction treatment and recovery.

If you have made vain attempts to control your addiction to the point where you feel you have absolutely no hope for recovery then you are ready for rehab. And if Twin Rivers is a viable option then I advise you look no further.

As the dozens of dozens of heartfelt five-star reviews attest: this is a world-class treatment programme that will save your life provided you put your head down and do the work.

The therapy programme is rigorous, intense and comprehensive with group therapy sessions, private counselling, probing assignment work and a variety of supporting therapeutic modalities such as yoga, meditation, art and drama.

The weekly schedule also included three AA/NA meetings, four gym sessions, five sunrise beach walks and a Saturday activity (e.g. horse riding, whale watching, quad biking, archery, nature walk, animal sanctuary).

My treatment concluded on 31 August, 2026 and I can safely say the programme works. With the foundation and support provided by Twin Rivers I have complete confidence that I will stay clean and in recovery for the rest of my life.

Living with other addicts in confinement under strict house rules has its challenges but these too contribute to your personal growth and recovery.

Just don’t go there in denial expecting a wellness retreat with chocolates on your pillow and a magic pill to make the cravings go away. If that’s you then you will find fault with everything, the pettiest of inconvenience will derail your recovery and you will leave with nothing but resentment.

The staff were compassionate, patient, and genuinely invested in helping me heal. From the nurses to the therapists, everyone treated me with kindness and dignity, and they made me feel supported during a very vulnerable time in my life.

One thing I especially appreciated was that they incorporated activities like yoga and attending community meetings. Being able to practice those habits while in treatment made life on the outside feel more real and helped prepare me to continue my recovery after leaving. Those experiences gave me tools and confidence that I carry with me today.

My name is Vincent and I’m an addict!

My sobriety date is 5^th October 2019

I started drinking at an early age as I felt unloved, unwanted and just ‘in the way’.

Alcohol was a form od escapism because when I drank, I became a different person, more confident and comfortable around my peers. However, this did not last long and pretty soon I was getting into trouble. I was fighting, stealing cars, drink driving and so much more! I became out of control.

Then I discovered the ‘magic’ elixir that could keep me out of trouble. DRUGS! I could now go out for 3 or 4 days without sleep and drink alcohol 24hrs a day. I wasn’t getting arrested anymore but this soon changed. I alarmingly started to lose my family and friends, my wife, my car and my children. My life was now controlled by the thoughts of getting and using drugs. I got to the stage where I didn’t care if I woke up or not the next day! I was now at the end of the road. I could go into a lot more detail but I am sure as the reader of this testimonial, you’ll have a pretty good idea of the mess I was in.

I got to the point of no return and decided I had had enough of this way of life. I phoned my brother up and said “I’m ready to change” and these few words changed my life. I saw a counsellor the very next day and was booked in for a detox and twelve days later I was admitted to Twin Rivers Recovery Centre in South Africa.

I was nervous and trepidatious but also slightly excited to begin this new stage of my life. My four months at Twin Rivers changed my life forever. With the support of David and his team I soon found out that the alcohol and drugs were not the problem! I was the problem and I thought drugs and alcohol was the solution. Once sober the feelings of feeling unloved and unwanted returned and so the hard yards began. With the help of my counsellor, I started to talk about life and my feelings.

I was introduced to The Twelve Step Programme and I attended Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings. My head started to clear and I focussed on working on the 12-step assignment work. Hating myself became less of a hobby and I began too actually quite like myself. This was ground breaking for me and I embraced the programme even more and reaped the benefits. I was not such a ‘bad’ person after all and accepted that I was an addict!

I could write many pages about what Twin Rivers has done for me but to put it into a few words Twin Rivers taught me self-respect which led to me getting my family, friends, girlfriend and children back and I began to navigate a new way of life that I never knew existed. I strongly believe that Twin Rivers influence literally saved my life otherwise I know I would have died!

Anyone out there who is considering on changing their life for the better then my advice would be to go to Twin Rivers Recovery Centre, trust the process and allow yourself to embark on an incredible life changing journey
